Resident Testimonial - February 14, 2008

“I can think of no better day than Valentine's Day to reflect on and thank you for the extraordinary love, care, compassion, dignity, excellence and service that were the hallmarks of my mother’s more than six years as resident at Twin Oaks Villa.

Like most families who find themselves in need of assisted living services for a loved one, we were anxious about moving Mama from her familiar surroundings into a facility like Twin Oaks. Mama was no less anxious and, as many senior citizens are, she was resistant to the idea, even though she also recognized that she could no longer live independently due to increasing memory loss.

However, after settling into Twin Oaks, she quickly began to call it and her spacious room her new home. Twin Oaks seemed to bring out the best in her in so many ways, and we know why. She had a circle of friends, staff who cared and activities to enjoy. Mama enjoyed everything from the fashion shows with her fellow residents, the crafts, the conversations in the rocking chairs on the front porch, the outings around Charleston and especially the visits from churches, particularly the musicians. In other words, she lived a well-rounded, rich life, far more so than she would have in any other setting.

If a house is not a home, then neither is the typical assisted living facility that is content to merely “house” its residents. Twin Oaks, on the other hand, is not just a house; your goal is clearly to make it a home, a special place for loved ones like our mother.

We want to thank you and everyone on your staff who had a part in making our mother’s last six years happy ones. May God bless you all in all you do for those who reside with you.

With warmest wishes...”
